22nd Day of May 1786

Borough of Aldborough Suffolk
The Voluntary Examination of Joseph Chatten, late and now of Beccles in the County of Suffolk.
First, This Examinant saith that he lived with Mr. Edward Bunniss of this Parish, as an Indented Servant for three Years, commencing July 28,1777. That he served his said Master two Years of said time wanting about a Month, when he left his said Master's Service by mutual Agreement (which happened .....nearly seven Years since) May 1779 That a short time after his leaving Mr Bunniss' Service, he inlisted into the Militia, where he continued three Years, 1782 as a Substitute; and that he immediately entered again into the Militia and served 'till March 1783 (at which time they were disembodied) and he then obtained his Discharge.
And lastly, that on the 29 January 1782 he married a wife , who is still living, by whom he has two sons, also living at this time.
