The Lawleys
When Mr. and Mrs. John Lawley came from England in 1905, he and his
sons, Arthur and Frank, worked on the C.P.R. grade from Winnipeg to
Saskatoon. In 1905 they took up homesteads north of where Amisk is
now and their home became a stopping place for travellers driving
between Provost and Wetaskiwin. Their daughters, Dorothy, who
became Mrs. Art Embury, and Nellie, who married George Chatten, were
the first girls in the district.
