The Lawleys When Mr. and Mrs. John Lawley came from England in 1905, he and his sons, Arthur and Frank, worked on the C.P.R. grade from Winnipeg to Saskatoon. In 1905 they took up homesteads north of where Amisk is now and their home became a stopping place for travellers driving between Provost and Wetaskiwin. Their daughters, Dorothy, who became Mrs. Art Embury, and Nellie, who married George Chatten, were the first girls in the district.

Nellie married George Chatten, son of John Chatten and Mary Jane Morris. (George Chatten was born circa 1887 in Longham, Norfolk and died in 1975 in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada.)
